New Year New Outlook

"We are not equipped to live both in the past and the future"--Dr. Maxsam

A Brief Synopsis of This Weeks Lunch Time 5 Minute Live

The past is the past

Going into this New Year be more determined than ever to leave the past in the past. We are not equipped to live both in the past and the future. The past and the future have no fellowship with one another. They have nothing in common. They are two separate entities that cannot exist in the same space. To force them to will lead to calamity. Past experiences serve to remind you what you have overcome, and what you are capable of, and to increase your capacity for whatever comes your way. The future holds the promise of a better tomorrow and points to all that is awaiting your arrival.

Letting Go of The Past is Hard

Many may struggle with letting go of the past. One reason that letting go of the past may be hard for you is that you are genuinely disappointed and hurt and you are having a hard time moving beyond pain. Quite often, the pain that you feel not only comes from acts of betrayal but also from the disbelief that your expectations were not met--whatever they were. In order for you to move beyond this, you have to get to the place where you "believe" and then deal with the situation that has been presented.

Moving Forward

Moving forward takes intentionality, courage, and work. You must have a plan to move forward so that you do not find yourself entangled in the things of the past. Also, you must stop reminiscing about the past. Before you can move on physically, you have to move on emotionally and mentally. Allow God to strengthen you and help you to move beyond the past and the pain that it presents.
